Performances at The BB&T Center for the Performing Arts
Luray Opera Theater presented 10 talented young singers, performing scenes from operas, prepared during the LOT summer program.
Participants were vocal students from throughout the Commonwealth, who rehearsed scenes and took daily classes in movement,
acting, voice, diction and interpretation. Local singers included Julia Verba and Luke Black.
The Opera Theater is led by Artistic Director David Newman, who has enjoyed an international career as an opera and oratorio singer
for more than 20 years. He cut his teeth in opera alongside some of the finest names in the business, making his debut recording
at the age of 22 in Pagliacci with Luciano Pavarotti and the Philadelphia Orchestra. His most recent recording, of
Monsigny's Le Deserteur, will be released in September on the Naxos label. Mr. Newman is currently on faculty at
James Madison University.
